Marion Downtown 2008 Calendar of Events


Second Fridays “Alive After 5: Downtown Marion Second Fridays ArtWalk 2007”
Arts, crafts, jewelry, music, food, and more on the second Friday of each month May – October, starting at the Appalachian Spirit Gallery next to Town Hall and continuing throughout the Downtown District at participating shops and businesses.

Thursday, May 15 6:00pm The Marion Downtown Annual Awards Program, part of Virginia’s Business Appreciation Week! location and cost tbd.

Monday, May 26th 10:00am VFW Memorial Day Parade down Main Street.
Special program and cookout to follow at the VFW Post Home on Goolsby Street.

Friday, May 30 10am – 2pm Smyth County Senior Day on the Courthouse Lawn

Fridays in June (6,13,20,27) from 12 til 1 “Lunchtime on the Lawn”
It’s a downtown tradition! Live music and delicious hot dogs from the Lucky Dog Deli!

July 18 - 20 “Downtown Days Festival and Outdoor Expo” Always the third weekend in July – in conjunction with the Hungry Mother Festival. Chili Cookoff, Car Show, and Street dance with Phantom Friday night. Special performances of the Missoula Children’s Theatre at the Lincoln Theatre on Saturday. Outdoor games, vendors, and more – bike ride, 5k race, guided tours of the Historywalk and Riverwalk, outdoor recreation information booths - all day Saturday. And great food, live music, and more all weekend, all over downtown! Free shuttle all weekend between downtown and the Park!

Saturday, October 4th “3rd Annual Oktoberfest” – The Courtyard at the Grand Ballroom. Come enjoy live music and our own Beergarden!

Saturday, Oct 25 11am – 1pm “Halloween Madness” Trick-or-treating event for kids!

September – November “The 4th Annual Sherwood Anderson Festival”

November 21 -23 “Shop At Home” Christmas Preview, with special sales, evening hours, live caroling, hotel packages, “The Lighting of Main”, and a special foods at participating businesses. Parade on Sunday, November 23 at 3pm.

Christmas Open House December 6 & 7 Special sales, live music, food vendors, Smyth County Museum and Historical Society House Tour

Saturdays Marion Regional Farmers’ Market Buy local produce, fruits, meats, flowers, handmade crafts, and more at our own Market on the Town Square Parking Lot each Saturday morning from Mother’s Day through October from 8 til noon, and Tuesday evenings during peak season
